Goal: To stimulate North American foreign direct investment in the Northern Ireland life sciences community. Provide R&D and commercialization advice to North Ireland Universities, Hospitals, and SMEs.

Results to date:

  • 180 assets screened, 72 inventors engaged, 47 projects under active advisement or on watching brief.
  • 600 unique organizations introduced to Northern Ireland, 45 active, 30 CDAs signed, 13 deals signed or under negotiation.
  • Value of portfolio estimated at $10-15 MM

 

Siemens Corporate Research for Healthcare

Goal: To identify and prioritize mid-term opportunities associated with the future of health care that account for existing and acquired capabilities following the acquisition of a diagnostic company.

Results:

  • Evaluated a dozen technology gaps across drug discovery and development.
  • Prioritized these as opportunities by impact on corporate decisions in large pharmaceutical companies, by commercial value and by the client’s competitive position in each area.
  • Performed a detailed analysis of the top two opportunities, identified research investment opportunities and provided warm introductions to initiate strategic partnering.

 

GenTel Biosciences - A Protein Biomarker Biotechnology Company

Goal: To establish a new screening department based on a novel screening platform. Develop strategic partnerships for new capabilities.

Result:

  • Worked with executives to establish strategic partnerships with collaborators and business accounts to position the client as a market leader and to identify future investments to maintain market position.
  • Assisted business development executive to secure pre-clinical and clinical research service contracts from pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, universities and research institutes.
  • Advised the new screening department in the following areas: assay development, laboratory management practices appropriate for preclinical and clinical screening and all phases of data management (data analysis, quality control, quality assurance, and reporting).

 

Ridge Diagnostics

Goal: To design and monitor a technology development roadmap for a novel diagnostics platform.

Result:

  • Developed and successfully completed a research program to establish and validate first-in-class specifications for the beta and commercial versions of the instrument.
  • Identified and prioritized three applications with high commercial value. Designed and monitored the successful development of these applications.
  • Established a novel strategic partnership model between the client and a large pharmaceutical company that accelerated the development and acceptance of these new applications. This approach dramatically enhanced the capacity and capabilities of the engineering and application development functions for the client.

 

A Large Diagnostic Company

Goal: To assist the diagnostic division in making a decision upon investing in multiplex biomarker systems.

Result:

  • Developed, optimized, and employed a questionnaire to determine how pharmaceutical executives use data from multiplexed protein biomarker assay platforms to make drug development decisions.
  • Information from survey was used to define assay performance criteria, assay price points, levels of exclusivity and market forecast projections.

 

A Life Sciences Government Funding Agency

Goal: To evaluate and prioritize funding proposals.

Result:

  • Provided expert feedback on numerous research proposals.
  • Elaborated strategic research themes for funding in the Genomics and Proteomics fields.
  • Participated on international review panel to prioritize funding opportunities and recommend investments.
